In 2012, Brady High School began offering a full complement of music courses. Available to students are performance courses in guitar, orchestra, and choir. In Brady music performance classes students learn performance skills, music literacy and appreciation, and basic skills in technique, music theory and music listening. Students may also select a non-performance class: music history, history of rock, and music theory & songwriting are available. Participating in music classes helps Brady students develop skills that will help them succeed in their other classes and in life.

Thomas Herlin, Music Teacher
Biographical Information

Teacher, performing musician, and composer, Thomas Herlin was born on “the other side of the Rockies” in Salt Lake City, Utah, but now calls Colorado home. He earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees at Brigham Young University and his doctorate at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He has previously taught music theory courses at the University of Texas at El Paso and at Metropolitan State College of Denver.

As a performer, he has been a member of the Champaign-Urbana Symphony, the El Paso Symphony, and the Colorado Mormon Chorale, and is a current member of the Arapahoe Philharmonic.

In 2004, Dr. Herlin began teaching in Colorado public schools, joining the Brady staff in 2012. At Brady, he teaches courses in instrumental and vocal music, music history, and music theory.
