Dress Code
Brady Exploration High School’s dress policies, procedures and practices benefit the school community by allowing for personal expression while maintaining a safe, respectful and inclusive learning environment.
The dress code is meant to be equitable with regard to race, ethnicity, gender identity and religion.
During the school day or at school-sponsored activities, students must dress in a way that promotes a safe, respectful and inclusive learning environment. This means that:
-
Tops must cover the chest and back from arm-pit to arm-pit, and cover the torso.
-
Pants, shorts, dresses and skirts must cover the buttocks and not hang low enough to reveal underwear.
-
No images or messages with overt, explicit profanity, sexual references, or references to tobacco, drugs and alcohol are allowed.
-
No overtly threatening or targeted weapons references or images are allowed.
-
No showcasing gang affiliation is allowed.
-
No images, symbols or messaging that are threatening, hateful or derogatory toward individuals or groups are allowed.
-
To avoid injury and disease, shoes, boots, sandals or other footwear must be worn (no socks or bare feet).
Accountability Measures
Students not meeting the dress code expectations will be addressed privately and provided options for meeting the expectations (including changing clothes, calling a guardian to bring clothes from home or turning a garment inside out. They will be reminded not to wear the offending garment again.)
The dress code may change periodically to address:
- New fads and styles
- Other issues that represent a distraction (or potential to distraction) to the educational process
- Other issues that represent a safety (or the potential to be a safety) concern
- Additional dress code expectations may be required for specific classes due to safety (such as science and woodshop)
Dress Code Guidance in Jeffco
Responsibility for student dress and appearance generally rests with individual students and their families. Students may wish to express themselves by the manner of their dress and appearance; however, students shall not wear clothing or affect an appearance at school or school-sanctioned activities or events that is disruptive to the educational environment. Jeffco Public Schools standards on student attire are intended to help students focus on schoolwork, reduce discipline problems, and improve school order and safety.
Disciplinary action for violating the student dress code shall include notifying the student of the violation and requiring that the dress or appearance be corrected before the student reenters the classroom, school environment, or school-sanctioned activity or event. At the discretion of the building-level administrator, a family conference may be held. More serious consequences may result from repeated or serious violations.
