Individualized Career & Academic Plan (ICAP)
The Individual Career and Academic Plan (ICAP) is a multi-year process that intentionally guides students and families in the exploration of career, academic and postsecondary opportunities. With the support of adults, students develop the awareness, knowledge, attitudes and skills to create their own meaningful and powerful pathways to be career and college-ready.
When students complete a meaningful ICAP process, they:
- Connect the relevance of education to future aspirations.
- Are more motivated to attend school and stay engaged.
- Become confident learners who can actively set goals.
- Make secondary and postsecondary course plans to pursue career and life goals.
- Are able to articulate their transferable skills and apply knowledge about how their actions today connect with their goals.

How ICAP works at Brady
The ICAP tool assists students in planning a path to college and career, including goal-setting, college opportunities, academic planning, financial literacy and financial aid and life skills.
Brady counselors focus on student needs and preparing them for their future career and college goals. We do this by having students take the Brady Support and Resources Survey, and also considering what students have done at other schools.
The goal is to build an individualized graduation plan. The ICAP, a series of lessons and activities that may have been worked on with other counselors at other schools, may be part of this plan. Thus, Brady may use a student’s previous experiences as a guide to help them with their graduation plan.
